Gloucestershire Probation Trust is committed to having a workforce that is valued because it is inclusive and the diversity of its workforce reflects the community it serves, enabling GPT to deliver the best possible service to the community in Gloucestershire. Promoting equality and respecting people’s differences is at the core of the work of the Probation Service and GPT has a crucial role in building the confidence of the diverse communities it serves.
GPT published a Race Equality Scheme in 2002 setting out how we intend to fulfil our duty to promote race equality.
We also published a Disability Equality Scheme in 2006 and a Gender Equality Scheme in 2007.
In 2009, GPT produced a Single Equality Scheme not only to recognise our statutory duty, but also to improve and develop our performance in all areas of diversity. It brings together the existing equality duties – race, gender and disability – and goes beyond them to include religion and belief, sexual orientation and age.
GPT is proud of having a good record in developing and implementing good practice in equality and diversity, but we recognise that we must continue to innovate and improve. Ensuring that equality is embedded into all our work is central to our values as an organisation, and we recognise that we need to evidence this value. To deliver an ever higher quality service, we must ensure that we are able to assess and meet the needs of all our users and stakeholders.
The GPT Board is committed to:
- Creating a diversity budget for Programmes to enable anyone who may have additional costs to attend Programmes or Specified Activity Requirements;
- Review the contract for Women Offenders Provision in Gloucestershire during 2012 to maintain best practice;
- Utilise the increase of bed space for female offenders under the Bail Accommodation Support Service by 31st March 2013;
- Publish the bi-annual diversity reports which have previously not been shared publicly.
