Gloucestershire’s Social Enterprise – by Garry Holden
In September 2009, GPA in partnership with Prinknash Monastery Garden, successfully bid for 6 months “Pilot funding” from NOMS to establish a social enterprise. This is an independent not for profit business. Gloucestershire Probation was awarded £30,000.
The outcome will be an independent organisation that will provide activities that reduce re-offending, improve health, address social exclusion and promote education training and employment.
The outcomes are reflected in the name REACH.
Rehabilitation: Reducing re-offending, criminal behaviour, substance abuse.
Education, Training and Employment for service users including mentoring.
Access: Services to improved user’s lives and reduce re-offending, utilising the Seven Reducing Re-offending Pathway approach.
Co-ordination: Bringing together organisations and services working towards Local Area Agreement goals.
Health: Provide health education platform for service users.
The project will use the platform of horticulture, education and tourism to deliver its work.
