Gloucestershire Probation Press Release 16 March 2010
PRESS STATEMENT ISSUED BY GLOUCESTERSHIRE PROBATION AREA IN RESPECT OF DOOR TO DOOR SALES FRAUD
Nationally, there have been several reports of ex-offenders selling products and services door-to-door. They claim to be working on a Probation Service approved doorstep selling scheme. Although there have been no incidents reported in Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire Probation felt it necessary to warn the public of these reports.
John Bensted, Chief Officer of Gloucestershire Probation, said: “We do not involve offenders in any type of doorstep scheme. Our advice is not to buy from any person claiming to be part of this project. Anyone who is contacted by someone claiming to be working with the Probation Service in this way should definitely not hand over any money and is advised to contact the police on 0845 090 1234 with as much detail as possible.”
