Performance

Each Probation Trust monitors over 70 indicators on a monthly or quarterly basis. These indicators are set by National Offender Management Service/Ministry of Justice (NOMS/MoJ), and by the regional representative of the NOMS Probation & Contracted Services Directorate with whom the Trust has a Service Level Agreement.

Many of these indicators contribute to the NOMS/MoJ Probation Trust Rating System (PTRS) which – for 2011-12 consists of 13 high-level targets.

The system is intended to provide Probation Trust, Contract managers and NMS with a balanced and rounded picture of performance using robust and fair assessment to encourage ongoing improvement.

The Trust also provides regular addition data/information to MoJ/NOMS, the regional NOMS office and to local management.

The Probation Trust Rating System

At the end of each quarter the Performance Information and Analysis Group (PIAG) at the NOMS produces a Probation Trust Rating System (PTRS) report. This consists of three main categories or domains:

  • Public Protection
  • Reducing Reoffending
  • Service Delivery

The system uses a formula to calculate performance bands which show how the Trust is performing against each target, each domain and how it is performance overall. The bands represent the follows ratings:
