Probation Officer
This is a career for those who enjoy
challenge and being able to make a difference. A probation Officer
needs strong analytical and reasoning skills. The role involves:
- Planning programmes of work to
identify and tackle factors related to criminal behaviour, in order
to stop or reduce further criminal activity.
- To provide timely and accurate
information to courts
- Supervising convicted offenders
- Continual assessment and monitoring
of risk posed by offenders whilst under probation supervision
- Working in partnership with other
agencies and organisations to ensure effective and constructive
methods are used to reduce offending.
Trainee Probation Officer
If you have strong operational skills
and commitment, you can undertake an intensive two year course of
degree level study and on-the-job training. The qualification to
become a Probation Officer is a Diploma in Probation Studies. The
Diploma is a degree-level course and consists of two parts:-
- Academic work towards a BSc in
Community Safety
- Practical learning, by working
alongside qualified probation officers, towards an NVQ Level 4, to
demonstrate competence in practise.
Probation Service Officer
This is a job for those who have a
genuine interest in working closely with people and being able to
provide advice and guidance. A Probation Service Officer will assist
with the supervision of offenders.
Duties include:
- Court Work
- interviewing offenders
- arranging community work placements
for offenders
Administrators and Support Staff
Frontline services are only successful
if they are backed up with efficient administration . Throughout the
service there are a number of different areas of support:-
- Finance
- Administration
- Human Resources
- IT
