Lechlade public right of way access for wheelchair users
| In December 2010, Mike Barton, Operations Officer, South Cotswold Public Rights of Way Team at Gloucestershire County Council was contacted by Mr Kit Arrow-Cumbe reporting that a stile on a public right of way in Lechlade at the entrance of a field was in poor and unstable condition. Mike Barton agreed to have it replaced with a medium sized mobility kissing gate that would enable those using wheelchairs to access the field and, indeed those who found walking more difficult than most. Mike decided that this would be a good project for the Gloucestershire Probation Trust Community Payback team although the weather was not going to allow a quick start to the work. Mike completed a consultation with the landowner who was happy for the work to be done.The stile is located at the end of Cuthwine Place in Lechlade and is situated on a Public Right of Way. |

 | Mr Arrrow-Cumbe wrote to say "I would like to put my heart felt thanks to all concerned with the project. Firstly to how simple and straight forward it was from my side, and also even due to bad weather was completed in a short time space. Secondly would you pass on my thanks to all concerned as for the community payback team and the five men here last Friday. It turned out, that my chair will pass through as does a fried in his manual chair, and over this very nice weekend a number of elderly people also took advantage of being able to walk along the path. The crew worked extremely well and hard and for them my thanks." |
| Mike Barton, Operation Officer for South Cotswolds Public rights of way added that the Community Payback Team have done a lot of work with the Public Rights of Way Team in the Cotswold and has included bridges, kissing gates and clearance, all carried out to an excellent standard which is really helping the community. |
