Community Safety
Ryecroft provides the safest accommodation for offenders in the community. Staff are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If they were in a flat or bed-sit in the local community, they would not have this level of supervision and the community could be placed at risk.
The Residents
| Ryecroft admits defendants on bail and residents who are either subject to community sentences or requirements to reside at Ryecroft on release from prison. Residents are all male, aged 18 and over. Admissions and Management Residents are only approved for admission to Ryecroft after a thorough assessment and management decision that Ryecroft provides the safest place for the offender to reside in the community. Rigourous assessment and management procedures include the national offender assessment and management systems, and strong links with the police, prisons, social services, housing, mental health and other agencies under the Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA). | |
Ryecroft provides:
- well-trained Probation Service staff who carefully assess offenders for admission and manage residents, in accordance with stringent procedures
- close working relationship and liaison with the police (at least two members of staff on duty 24 hours a day every day - including waking night cover and managers on call)
- a programme of work designed for each resident to enable them to complete their period of residence successfully and to reduce their risk of reoffending
- closed circuit television (CCTV) inside and outside the building
- strict enforcement of National Standards and hostel rules
- residents must remain inside the hostel from 11pm to 7am. Individual curfews are more restricted if required.
- residents are required to pay for their accommodation, mainly single, some shared rooms, including breakfast and evening meals.
