Working with offenders in prison
A probation offender manager will manage an offender throughout the duration of their prison sentence.
Gloucestershire Probation has teams of seconded probation officers working in the county's prison - HMP Gloucester. We also visit offenders from Gloucestershire serving their sentences at other prisons in the country.
Work carried out includes:
- Preparing information and risk assessments on prisoners being considered for early release e.g. advising on curfews
- Contributing to minimising the risk of prisoners harming themselves and others
- Working with the Prison Service on sentence management and supporting prison staff in the preparation of sentence plans
- Running group work with prisoners designed to address offending behaviour and reduce the likelihood of further offending
- Working with voluntary and specialist agencies offering advice and support to prisoners to promote the successful resettlement of prisoners when released into the community
- Liaising with probation staff in the community who supervise prisoners after release.
