The ability of offenders to change and rehabilitate with the appropriate support and guidance is central to the probation ethos.
Gloucestershire Probation operates a range of successful activities aimed at tackling the root causes of offending. These include:
Offending behaviour programmes
Tackling the way people think has been shown to directly affect the way they behave. Offending behaviour programmes are designed to address and challenge the activities and patterns of behaviour that contribute to committing crime. These programmes are courses that offenders have to attend either as part of a Community Order or as a condition of release from prison.
Gloucestershire Probation Area runs a variety of programmes accredited by the Home Office, addressing criminal behaviour including general offending, domestic violence, sex offending, drink driving and more. For more information about each programme see the menu on the left.
Education, training and employment
Providing offenders with training, skills and education to enable them to enter the workforce. See our education, training and employment section for more information.
Substance misuse
Dependency on and misuse of drugs and alcohol is a major cause of offending. Gloucestershire Probation oversees delivery of Drug Rehabilitation Requirement and Alcohol Treatment Requirement sentences from the courts.
