(DID)
Challenges drink drivers to accept responsibility for their offending and the consequences. DID can form part of a Community Order or a post-release prison licence.
Programme aims

- To challenge offenders to accept responsibility for their offending and its consequences
Who is suitable?
Offenders who:
- Pose a medium to high risk of harming the public through offending
- Have one to four previous convictions for drink driving
DID is not suitable for:
- First time offenders who were convicted with less than 3 times the alcohol limit
- Those with five or more previous convictions for excess alcohol
- Heavy drinkers
The programme involves:
- Five individual sessions on risk assessment and group preparation
- 14 weekly groupwork sessions. These focus on structured learning to develop pro-social skills, effective decision-making and detailed knowledge about the effects of drinking and driving
- Five evaluation and relapse prevention sessions
- Consistent monitoring and evaluation.
