Resettlement in
Gloucester Prison is delivered by Seconded Probation Officers in
partnership with Prison Officers and a range of Voluntary Sector
Partners. We hold responsibility for the following areas within the
establishment.
|
|
Sentence
Management |
Comprehensive
assessments are completed on all prisoners and a sentence plan
completed to ensure that prisoner’s needs and offending behaviour
are addressed whilst in custody.
|
|
Pre Discharge Intervention |
All prisoners with
eight weeks left to serve are required to access our pre release
programme which includes a through the "Gate Action plan" to aid
resettlement. This process also includes a mentoring scheme for
vulnerable prisoners.
|
|
Public Protection |
A risk assessment
and the active management of high- risk offenders is undertaken by
the resettlement team. This includes Multi Agency cases, Child
Protection, Home Detention Curfew, Suicide and Self Harm, Parole
and prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment.
|
|
Accommodation |
Where housing is
identified as a resettlement need, practical assistance is offered
via our NACRO placement officer.
|
|
Employment Training |
A comprehensive pre
release package is provided by the resettlement team which aims to
prepare and motivate prisoners for release into the labour market.
All receive guidance interviews and practical help to make them
job ready. Through the gate opportunities are provided by training
agencies working in partnership with resettlement.

|
Bail Information |
We assist the
courts by providing verified information to the Crown Prosecution
Service in advance of a remand hearing. Information is gathered
via individual risk assessments. The Legal Services Officer also
deals with those prisoners subject to recall.
|
|
Intervention |
Resettlement staff
also work across the prison delivering training, induction to
prisoners, responding to prisoners applications for assistance,
help maintain employment and accommodation for those on remand or
serving a short sentence, provide in-depth advice and guidance
across the whole range of prisoner needs. Partnerships are crucial
to our delivery and a number of Voluntary Sector Providers are
linked to the resettlement process.

Visitor Centre |
As part of our
commitment to families, a dedicated Probation Officer is
responsible for the day-to-day management of our visitors centre,
offering support and guidance to visiting families on a range of
personal and practical problems.
