Restorative Justice gives victims the chance to tell offenders the real impact of their crime, and to get answers to their questions. It gives the offenders the chance to understand the real impact of what they’ve done and to do something to repair the harm. Restorative Justice holds offenders to account for what they have done, personally and directly, and helps victims to get on with their lives.
HMP Gloucester currently facilitates restorative justice approaches between victims and offenders in Gloucestershire. HMP Gloucester works closely with statutory (probation, police etc) and voluntary (victim support etc) sector partners. If you have been a victim of crime and the person who committed this crime is currently in prison or on a licence you may be able to let them know how you have been affected and get answers to any questions you have. Like wise if you are an offender (or family member that thinks this is fitting) you may be able let the victim know that you wish to explain and apologise through correspondence with the RJ unit. This may be done by letters or in a face to face meeting. All correspondence is confidential and any meetings thoroughly risk assessed. No personal information is passed without permission.
N.B. The Restorative Justice scheme is not offered for domestic violence or sex offences.
